The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) got in touch with BACKUP to host their inaugural Irish Aviation Gala Ball, an event to raise much needed funds for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). The brief set by the IAA was to make bold and exciting event to an audience of aviation enthusiasts whom were used to impressive events. The audience jetted in from across Europe so this was the IAA’s time to shine.

With consideration of the 800+ attendees and the event location, BACKUP worked closely with the client to shape the event theme; The Rip-Roaring ’20s.

Think Gatsby, think Prohibition Era, think high kicking gals and Sazerac sluggin’ guests. The Double-Tree on Dublin’s Burlington Road was transformed into a blast from the past with opulent drapes, low lighting, black and gold sultry décor and oversized feather centrepieces. Art deco style props filled the large room, along with none other than a full scaled replica fighter plane and car that Jay Gatsby himself could have turned up in.

The event was a hit, and the Irish Aviation Gala Ball had truly ‘landed’ as a must do event on the aviation calendar.

Also in the room was a 1920’s Bentley car and the oversize impressive stage gave host to the Bugle Babes trio followed by The Pearly Whites big band and the entertainment finished with a slapstick dance set from a Gatsby guy and girl group. Added to this was the offering of a Cherry Whiskey sour cocktail and props for guests on arrival so everyone felt part of the era – it was a “Rip Roaring” success.
